After more than four decades of commitment, responsibility and humanity, our long-standing colleague Antonia Witzani retired in August 2025.
Since 11 April 1983 – an incredible 42 years, or more than 15,000 days – Antonia has had a lasting impact on the Youth Hostel Association, both in Upper Austria and at the federal level. She was far more than an employee: a driving force, mentor, crisis manager and pioneer – and for many, the emotional heart of the organisation.
With outstanding professional expertise, strategic foresight and a legendary eye for detail, she built structures, modernised processes and guided the association safely through challenging times. Whether accounting, construction projects, funding negotiations or digital transformation – much of what is taken for granted today bears her signature.
Her tireless commitment to maintaining the independence of the Upper Austrian Youth Hostel Association was particularly significant. With conviction, clarity and courage, she advocated for staying true to an independent path – a decision from which the association continues to benefit to this day.
Yet beyond all figures, projects and achievements, it was above all her humanity that defined Antonia. She listened, mediated, encouraged and always had an open ear for colleagues. Generations of staff members have benefited from her knowledge, experience and values.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, dear Antonia – for your dedication, your integrity and everything you have done for the Youth Hostel Association and its people.
We wish you health, happiness and many wonderful moments in this new chapter of your life.
